End of the Year
Once again, we have come to the end of the calendar year. Here at The Village we have several “ends of the
year” - the calendar year, the Jewish calendar year and the fiscal year. The end of the calendar year has an
effect on all of us—no matter what our religion, ethnicity or financial situation might be. As I write this we
are just a few days away from Thanksgiving. The word itself tells us what we ought to be doing this week.
We gather with our friends and families and count our blessings. Yes, we have all had a rough year—the
economy is bad, we are still at war, and of course, the healthcare debate goes on and on. This last item will
surely affect all of us—personally and professionally—as we wait to see what the new “rules” will bring in terms of Medicare
reimbursements and the like. But all of us still have many things to be thankful for—and as you reflect on the past year be
sure to give thanks for your good health, your loved ones and whatever other good is in your life.
And now that Thanksgiving is over, we turn our attention to the December holidays—Christmas and Chanukah and later on
Kwanza. As we prepare for these, let us remember that no matter how many shopping days there are leading up to these holidays,
the best gifts are not found in any stores or on-line sites. Again, the greatest gifts are your loving families and friends,
your good health, your charity and how good you feel when you do for others who are less fortunate. Make it part of your
holiday resolution to take better care of yourselves, to call those friends with whom you have been out of touch, to be more
patient with your children, to be charitable, and remember to say “I love you” to your spouses, your parents, your children and
your friends.
2010 will bring new opportunities for all of us at The Village. New fund-raising opportunities are in the works. We are revamping
our website to make it more inter-active and user-friendly. We continue to strive to provide the very best care for
your loved ones by keeping up with all the latest innovations in senior health care. This is our mission and we remind ourselves
of it every day.
Rachel, Anne, Hannah and I wish each and every one of you and your families a healthy, happy and prosperous holiday season
and a very happy new year.

Switch Day is Coming!
As tradition dictates, Christmas Day at Beth Sholom
Village is known as Switch Day. This year, Friday
December 25, will usher in dozens of volunteers who
will assist in the kitchen, dining room, activities department
and wherever else they are needed so that
Village staff may enjoy time with their own families.
If you would like to volunteer on December 25,
please call Leslie Legum at 420-2512 or email to
llegum@bethsholomvillage.com. Thanks for your help!
