What is the difference between The Home, The Sands, and The Terrace?

All three of our facilities operate under the auspices of The Beth Sholom Village.
• The Berger-Goldrich Home at Beth Sholom Village is a skilled nursing facility for frail elderly, providing short-term rehabilitation, long-term care and end-of-life care.
• The Sands is an independent living residence for low income independent, seniors.
• The Terrace, A Harry and Jeannette Weinberg Assisted Living Center offers highly specialized, intermediate care for those elderly with greater physical disabilities and/or dementia.

How do we learn more about which facility best suits our needs?

Please call our Social Services Department at (757) 420-2512. We will contact you to help evaluate the condition of your loved one and determine which level of care best suits their immediate needs.

Does one have to be Jewish to live in Beth Sholom Village?

No. Our residents are drawn from the community and beyond. Our residents observe their own faiths with frequent visits from clergy. However, our kitchen is strictly kosher, and we observe Jewish traditions and customs. Members of our staff speak many languages, including Spanish, Yiddish and Russian and may be called upon to act as interpreters.

May we come for a tour of Beth Sholom Village?

We welcome visitors and will be happy to arrange to show you our facilities. Simply call our Social Services Department at (757) 420-2512.

My mother broke her hip and will leave the hospital in a day or two. Does Beth Sholom Village take patients for post-hospital care and rehab?

Yes, we offer skilled nursing care and a staff of physical, occupational and speech therapists for rehabilitation after a hospitalization. Your mother may be eligible for up to 100 days of care covered by Medicare. Speak with our Social Services Department or the discharge planners in the hospital and express your interest in The Home at Beth Sholom Village.

Will someone from Beth Sholom village speak to an organization?

Yes. Please contact the Director of Community Relations at (757) 420-2512.

Why does Beth Sholom Village need volunteers and how can I get involved?

Volunteering is a mitzvah, a good deed. Participating in an activity, like bingo or sing along, doing office work, staffing the gift shop, giving manicures, reading or just visiting with residents perpetuates a connection between the elderly and the community. It allows our staff to concentrate on resident care. For more information call our Community Relations Director at (757) 420-2512.

Who operates The Village?

Beth Sholom Village is a nonprofit corporation, with a Board of Directors made up of volunteer lay and professional community people. Beth Sholom Village elects community members to serve on its Board, which oversees the policy direction of The Home and assists with raising funds. Professionally, the Executive Vice President, a licensed Nursing Home Administrator, manages the facility. For more information, please call or write the Executive Vice President at
